A teenager will travel across the country in a rickshaw for a TV charity appeal.

Carolina De Freitas, 18, has been selected for BBC The One Show’s ‘Rickshaw Challenge’ following her involvement with Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, which supports children with illnesses, and their families, and is based in Victors Way, Barnet.

The team, made up of four others, will embark on a ‘Salford to Walford’ journey to raise money for BBC Children in Need. They will travel more than 450 miles from the BBC’s Media City, near Manchester, to end up at the EastEnders set in Elstree during the appeal on November 14.

Carolina, from Tottenham, got involved with Noah's Ark after her older brother Pedro was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare type of cancer. She joined a sibling group, which was set up to help young people with relatives facing terminal illnesses.

On January 1 2011, Pedro passed away.

Following his death, Carolina received support from Noah’s Ark, which she described as a “blessing”.

The riders will also give a speech to an audience, talking about their motivations for the challenge and their own personal journeys.

They will begin their journey on November 7.

Carolina said: “It was a huge surprise to be picked for the Rickshaw Challenge, but I’m so happy to be part of the team. BBC Children in Need is a brilliant charity that’s helped me so much through the funding to Noah’s Ark. I’m really happy to be in the position to give something back.

“As a Londoner myself I’m hoping that we’ll have a lot of support, especially when we arrive back in town at Albert Square.”
