An appeal has been launched after an ancient tree was vandalised in Finchley.
The perpetrator carved ‘Neil’ in deep letters into a Holm Oak tree at Stephens House and Gardens, in East End Road, Finchley last Saturday.
Avenue House Estate Trust, which runs the gardens, is appealing for help in tracking down the person responsible.
General manager Malcolm Godfrey said: “We have some rare trees, and it damages the historical element of the garden. If they are doing it here, where else are they doing it?”
Anyone with information is urged to call Stephens House and Gardens on 020 8346 7812.
