Parliamentary candidates from across Barnet will take questions on the environment, climate change and a possible threat to the NHS at a hustings.

Barnet Friends of the Earth (FoE) and Finchley and Golders Green 38 Degrees Local Group have organised the event at the St Mary at Finchley Church, in Hendon Lane, Fiinchley, next Monday at 6.30pm.

The panel will include Labour’s candidate for Finchley and Golders Green, Sarah Sackman, Liberal Democrat candidate for Hendon, Alasdair Hill, Green candidate for Chipping Barnet, AM Poppy and UKIP candidate for Finchley and Golders Green, Richard King. Conservative candidates are yet to confirm.

As well as the environment, the EU-US trade deal TTIP, seen by some as a threat to the NHS, will be discussed.

Alasdair Bethley, co-ordinator of Barnet FoE, said: "TTIP (the EU-US free trade deal being negotiated) and CETA (EU-Canada equivalent) are being stitched up this year with little consultation or publicity. They will weaken health, safety and environmental standards, allow companies to sue governments for introducing new ones, and offer very slender economic benefits, according to independent economists.”
