The Times Series has asked each parliamentary candidate to list five reasons why they should become an MP at the General Election on May 7.

Here UKIP candidate for Finchley and Golders Green Richard King explains why you should vote for him.

I’m a family man, married for 21 years to my British Indian wife. I have lived in London for 30 years and we’ve seen huge social change. I believe in controlled immigration which benefits us all, but our tolerant society is now under threat by uncontrolled immigration on a scale never experienced before. We are all threatened by intolerance and the rise of anti-Semitism and I am a lifelong friend of Israel and a supporter of the Jewish community.

Critical services are cut and collapsing around us. How can we plan with our limited resources when 300,000 extra people are migrating to Britain every year? I have a 15-year-old daughter and I fear for her future. Our young people need school places, education and jobs; our elderly need proper care. We need decent wages, affordable housing, and lower crime. We should put local people first, save our free NHS, libraries and green spaces, and stop wasting money and interfering in unnecessary foreign wars.

To address these problems UKIP will:

1. Say NO to the EU

2. Control our borders

3. Fund £3 billion extra for NHS

4. Cut foreign aid spending

5. No tax on the minimum wage

I love Britain and I love Europe, but not the EU political union. Our freedom and security is built on British democracy. Let’s not give it away to the EU where your vote means nothing. 75 per cent of our laws are now decided by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels and our politicians are powerless to change these. The current EU path is clear but what future do you want? I believe in Britain, strong, independent and trading with the world. I hope you do too.
