Library workers, schools catering staff and other council workers will set up picket lines for the third time over an ongoing row about outsourcing.

Barnet Unison members working for Barnet council will take industrial action on Wednesday, July 8 for 24 hours, following four days of strikes in May and June.

The dispute is over proposals to outsource council services including libraries, children’s centres, street cleaning and school meals.

Barnet council faces a £90m budget shortfall by 2020, which it says means it cannot continue with the status quo.

Unison members say they fear outsourcing will damage working terms and conditions, and reduce accountability to taxpayers.

Picket lines will be set up at North London Business Park, Mill Hill Depot and East Finchley Library.
