The law will change on October 1
Private landlords can pick up free smoke alarms ahead of a change in the law.
From October 1, anyone renting out property will have to make sure there is at least one working smoke alarm on every floor.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will hand out the kit before the change comes in.
