A youth project that supports young women on an East Finchley estate has scooped a national award.
Vale’s Nails, a pop-up nail bar based on the Strawberry Vale estate, won the Excellence in Youth Involvement category at the Tenant Participation Advisory Service awards on July 9.
The project was developed by housing association Peabody and charity Art Against Knives, and has helped more than 100 women on the estate with employment and training.
Veronica Kirwan, director of community programmes at Peabody, said the group was “thrilled” at the recognition.
She added: “This project is making a real difference to the lives of young women and their community, by providing opportunities and support services, and encouraging them to take the lead when tackling issues that affect their day-to-day lives. Congratulations and well done to all involved.”
