A BOXER died after a crash on his moped near Brent Cross, an inquest heard.

Joe Kaczorowski, of Crawford Street, Willesden, was hit by a car on the A406 near Brent Cross Shopping Centre on December 19 last year.

The 40-year-old died later that night surrounded by his family at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington from back and head injuries.

The court heard Mr Kaczorowski had been bought the moped for his birthday by his partner of five years, Nadia Asif, from a shop in East Barnet Road, New Barnet.

In evidence read to the court, she said the moped had broken down a couple of times before.

Ms Asif said: “I am sure Joe had taken the bike back for service before the collision.”

But a mechanic who worked on the moped said “everything seemed fine”.

In evidence read to the court, witness Donavan Julies said he had been driving in the middle lane near Brent Cross Shopping Centre on the day.

Mr Julies said the bike started to swerve.

He said: “I could see the individual was having difficulties. The motorbike seemed to be losing power. Within about five seconds, the rider was having difficulty.”

Mr Julies said the bike started to slow down “significantly”.

He said: “Thinking he was an inexperienced rider, I wanted to get out of his way. I saw the bike had started to wobble. It was not that the motorcycle had total power failure, he was still moving forward but with some difficulty.”

Mr Julies moved into the slow lane, and the bike collided with another car in the middle lane.

The court also heard from John Bone, who explained how he had hit Mr Kaczorowski.

He said: “I had heard on the radio Friday was going to be one of the busiest for Christmas dos, and I was being very aware of other road users. I was in no rush to get to work. I had got people at work covering me.”

Mr Bone said he had been driving in the slow lane on the North Circular Road, when another car changed lanes and pulled in front of him.

He said: “I was aware that the silver Ford, for no reason I could explain, changed lanes and pulled in front of me and started braking. I needed to avoid the car.”

Mr Bone said he changed lanes, and saw the moped in the middle of the road.

He said: “I hit on the brakes. The collision was unavoidable. I hit the motorcyclist and as soon as that happened, the wind screen went out and airbags were deployed.”

At North London Coroner’s Court today, Coroner Andrew Walker ruled Mr Kaczorowski died from a road traffic collision.
