SCHOOLCHILDREN helped deliver a festive cheer as Middlesex University switched on its Christmas lights.

Pupils from St Mary's and St John's School, in Hendon, joined university students and staff to sing carols at the service in The Burroughs, Hendon on Monday (November 30).

Vice-chancellor Tim Blackman welcomed them to the campus, before ten-year-old Mrika Anadolli flicked the switch to light up the 30-foot fir tree.

Choir member Davina Laoye, ten, said: “Lots of my family members have studied at university, so I might come here because I want to carry on the tradition. My mum is a designer and she studied at Middlesex University.”

Dan Marks, a teacher at the school, said: “We were really pleased to be invited. We’re starting to build a partnership with the university, so it would be lovely to keep this going. We have been practising our carols for about three or four weeks.”
