FASHION students have showcased their jaw-dropping talents in a catwalk of designs for the community.

The students from Barnet and Southgate College created original designs with models strutting down a custom-built stage to show off the designs.

The catwalk, erected in front of the stunning stained glass window in St. John the Baptist Church, adjacent to the College’s Wood Street campus in Barnet, was centre stage for the exciting new designs inspired by anything from Alice in Wonderland to ‘trade roots’.

Brandi Monteiro was just one of the students who got the opportunity to share her designs, modelled by former Barnet and Southgate College student Rossetti Rogers.

The 21-year-old fashion student said: “My whole collection is called Salvage and the dress in (Thursday’s) show is from that; I collected denim samples from charity shops and unpicked and patch-worked it all together unevenly to create a distinctive look.

“I’ve loved every minute of getting ready for today’s catwalk show, it has been stressful at times but I would definitely do it all again, I’ve really enjoyed my course at Barnet and Southgate College and I’m hoping to go onto Nottingham Trent University after my course finishes this year.”

The community was invited to the catwalk on March 26 with another event held in the evening for staff, family and friends.

Diploma and Extended Diploma fashion students from Barnet and Southgate College, based in Barnet, got to have their garments designed and produced in collaboration with Hebei Women’s Vocational College, in China.

Barnet and Southgate College Principal David Byrne said: “Barnet and Southgate College is extremely proud of all our talented final year Fashion students, who put on an inspirational and very professional show.

“They’ve all worked extremely hard putting together their collections, and the end of year catwalk show has become an annual College highlight. It also gives the students a chance to shine and be involved in a real life fashion event, which they may one day be hosting themselves.”
