HENDON businesses are frustrated at losing out on trade as the borough’s parking situation escalates.

Brian Davis has owned For Arts sake in the Burroughs, Hendon for 38 years.

Mr Davis said this has started to effect his business.

He said: “Parking has been a problem since the council brought in the permit and pay and display car parks.

“Customers call me from their car in frustration at not being able to park, but I do not know what to tell them.

“The big Burroughs car has 44 spaces, and it is permit holders only, but it is never full. There is a car park on the other side of the A41 road, but if people have heavy items, it is too far for them to walk.

“I would like a change in the mix of car parking spaces, as there is certainly not enough spaces for visitors.”

The Boroughs gardens car park is adjacent to the store and has enough space for 18 cars, but is valid for HC2 permit holders and is also a pay and display car park.

Up to four cars can park in Burroughs gardens right by the shop, but is for permit holders only from 10am-5pm.

A total of 44 parking spaces and two disabled bays are in The Burroughs car park, near the A41 road.

This car park has been split, as 20 spaces are for HC2 permit holders and 24 are for HD business permit holders.

John Bitran is the director of J&J security, next door to For Art’s sake in the Burroughs, and agrees with calls for better parking facilities.

Mr Bitran, who has owned the Hendon store for four years, said: “There is currently no pay and display available for customers and

“We have a designer showroom here, and customers cannot come here because they can’t park, and what can we say to them?

"We have even had a number of customers angry because they have received parking tickets.

“This does not give us a good start with customers, and it is effecting our business. There is no help for businesses to thrive in this area.

“The University means more cars too, and any residential spaces are always full.”

Mr Britain agreed that Barnet council need to turn the Boroughs gardens car park a pay and display area, to make it easier for visitors and to make it more comfortable for them to visit out stores.

The Times series has contacted Barnet Council for a comment.
