BARNET’s Urban Gamez were a hit with the community as more than 140 people took part.

The seventh annual competition saw young people compete against each other in the Grahame Park event, held on Friday August 26.

The concourse in Grahame Park, also attracted Barnet’s Mayor Councillor David Longstaff and The Barnet Group Board Chair Terry Rogers, who took on the role of sports commentators.

Barnet Mayor and Cllr David Longstaff said: “It was a delightfully warm afternoon with a large number of residents participating and supporting the Urban Gamez.

"I know it is something of a local institution and after attending I can see why.

"It was fantastic seeing so many parents encouraging their children and young people to come outside, join in and be more active, alongside Barnet Homes staff and the many volunteers who helped the Gamez run smoothly.”

Children tried their hand at boxing lessons, raced for first place in the Olympics event and the 60-metre dash proved popular with everyone.

Barnet Homes Board Chairman, Terry Rogers added: “Urban Gamez was brilliantly organised…and how handy was it that Urban Gamez took place straight after the Rio 2016 Olympics? Perfect timing to get young people out and about and thinking about being active.”
