Police stopped a man riding an illegal e-bike down the M25 before seizing the bicycle.
Police were called to the M25 at Potters Bar at around 3.15pm on Sunday (January 7) after the man was spotted riding the e-bike on the hard shoulder.
The rider was stopped by officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire (BCH) road policing unit and his bike was seized.
The force said on X that the bike had a power output of more than 250W and a maximum speed of 22mph.
As a result – they said – the e-bike falls outside EAPC (Electrically assisted pedal cycles) regulations so “cannot be ridden on our roads”.

This was found being ridden on the M25 motorway.

Sergeant Jamie Cooper, from the BCH Road Policing Unit, said: “I would like to remind everyone that it is illegal and unsafe to ride any type of pedal cycle on the motorway.
“Some pedal cycles like the one stopped by our officers are also illegal on any road in the United Kingdom, due to them falling outside of the EAPC regulations.”
