Almost 250 flats have been handed over as affordable housing for people in Barnet.

The 249 homes, part of Redrow's Colindale Gardens development, have officially been given to Barnet Council as part of work to combat the shortage of affordable housing in north west London.

The move forms part of Redrow London’s commitment to community support and Barnet Council's goal to deliver 1,000 affordable homes by 2026.

The flats range from studio to three-bedroom apartments.

Residents will benefit from the nearby four-acre park, cycle paths and outdoor play areas on the development.

Colindale Tube station is also a short walk away, providing links to the West End and City in under half an hour.

Deputy council leader Councillor Ross Houston, added: "As a council, we care for our people and that means providing high quality, affordable housing.

"These 249 homes represent really good value for money and will make considerable savings on temporary accommodation costs the moment new tenants move in."

Paul Muldowney, managing director of Redrow London, said: "We are thrilled to collaborate with Barnet Council to provide 249 high-quality affordable homes at our Colindale Gardens development.

"We look forward to continuing to welcome residents to this vibrant community."
