The 1st team put up a lacklustre performance to go out of the AFA Cup to an unexceptional Arthurian League side. Defensive weakness again seemed to be the problem and our top side is leaking an average of 3 goals a game meaning they generally have to score 4 to win. This is a bit much to ask despite our talent going forward. Nobody can complain about Sam Berry’s contribution though, scoring yet again to go joint top goalscorer in the Club.

The 2nds had the long journey to Merton and maybe it was a coincidence that they had by far the most drop-outs! Of the 7 people who jumped ship, the worst excuse was one who allegedly was going ‘shopping’! They needed to have a full-strength side against the unbeaten 2nd placed team but in the end were unlucky to go down by the odd goal.

Following last week’s superb performance, the 3rds nearly embarrassed themselves against a Div3 side yet to record a win. However, they scraped through to the next round.

The 4ths continued their superb season by demolishing lowly placed Old Lats. Raz Siddique announced his arrival with an opening hattrick. Goran also jumps into 2nd place on the goalscorers.

The 5ths went to the wrong ground, got changed and nearly started a game against the wrong side! At the last minute they realised their error and ran to their cars in kit to drive a mile to the right ground to find a bemused Julian Oxley who went to the right ground but had no kit. It didn’t do them much harm though as they whitewashed a high placed team to take 2nd place themselves.

The 6ths were disappointed to lose by the odd goal. They managed to get the goals this time but need to shore it up at the back.

The 7ths were similarly disappointed to lose to they same club. Tim Finney is moving up the goalscorers’ list despite often being played in defence!

The dirty dozen that make up the 9ths had their outing this week and their potent mix of age and more age was too much for a very capable 8ths team! The main difference was organisation at the back which is where old heads can make up for a lack of pace.
