A good set of results for EBOG FC this week.

The 1sts have tended to let lower sides off the hook this season but firmly put that theory to bed with a proper thrashing of Kew Association. They have crept into second place with the best goal difference in the division largely down to the GoalBerry. Good to see Rob Harris back on the scoring trail.

After the 2nds recent bad run they didn’t need a match against yet another top 3 side but they more than matched them, dominating the first half hour. Had Chris Boyce’s sizzling left foot shot gone in rather than rattling the bar, the outcome may have been different. Nottsborough battled their way back into the match, however, and it had all the hallmarks of a no score stalemate when a soft goal in the last 10 minutes summed up the 2nd’s season. If the 2nds can put out this set of players every week they are clearly capable of competing at this level and it would be a travesty if they went down.

3bog continue to show they are one of the best 3rd teams in AFA football by sweeping aside another Div 1 side with similar ambitions. Two goals from George Mabey who is in excellent form and a constant threat down the left with driving runs and quality crossing. Add to this his Delap style long throw-ins, he’s a menace to any opposition. Lee Sterry managed to miss a penalty in this game but he only scores when it matters!

Consolidating their third place, the 4ths brushed off the disappointment of last week to emphatically bury Old Owens 5ths. The latter are now 3rd from bottom whilst their 6ths lead the Division – surely they have got to do something about their selection policy?

The 5ths also bounced back this week with a great win over close competitors Winchmore Hill who they now overtake.

Performance of the day though goes to the 6ths who under the temporary management of Adam Callow got a priceless 6 points in a double-header which hauls them well clear of the bottom two and means the 8ths can sleep easier.

Although there were several call-offs due to waterlogging in the area, our pitches were in excellent condition as normal and the main reason we will be hosting a further 3 Cup Finals at the club in March/April, making 4 in total this season. The drainage and careful management by Julian Oxley has allowed the pitch surface to survive this terrible winter, and it is recognised that we are likely to have the best grass coverage in the league come the Spring.
