A brother and sister from Barnet Copthall Swimming Club will be hoping to make a splash when they take part in this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Anum Bandey and her brother Haris will be representing Pakistan at the Games in Glasgow which begin get underway with the opening ceremony today.

Seventeen-year-old Anum competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games as well as at the 2011 and 2013 FINA World Aquatics Championships.

She is set to race in four events at Glasgow, including 50m, 100m and 200 breaststroke and 50m butterfly.

Younger brother Haris, 15, who joins Anum in a nine-strong Pakistan team, will compete in the 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m backstroke events.

Rhys Gormley, chief coach of Barnet Copthall swimming club, said: "Barnet Copthall are extremely proud that both Anum and Haris have been selected for the Pakistan team to swim at the Commonwealth Games this week.

"Both of the swimmers came through the lesson programme at Barnet Copthall and progressed on to the swimming club."

The Games begin at 8pm this evening with the opening ceremony and run for 11 days. The swimming events begin on Thursday morning.
