Barnet head coach Martin Allen says he will not lose any sleep over the Bees’ dramatic last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers, insisting he doesn’t even celebrate when his side win.

An injury-time goal from substitute Angelo Balanta ensured the Gas would take three points rather than one against the Bees, cutting Barnet’s lead at the summit to six points after Grimsby Town beat Woking 3-1.

The Gas took the lead after just four minutes when Matty Taylor stole in from the right to guide a shot beyond new loan signing Raphael Spiegel at his near post.

Rovers had Barnet pegged in for the first half and hour, but just minutes after a gilt-edged miss by the hosts, the Bees drew level when Luisma Villa whipped a superb free-kick beyond Gas goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall.

But, deep into injury time, Darrell Clarke’s side claimed maximum points when Balanta turned home from close-range to send The Memorial Stadium into raptures.

As ever, Allen remained measured afterwards and said: "I don’t personally celebrate when we win and I am not going to go out of here and bang my head against the wall when we have not won.

"As long as they give everything they have got - which they did tonight - then I am pleased with them.

"It certainly won’t make me lose any sleep tonight," he added.

Backed by a vociferous support of more than 6,000, Rovers were by far the more dangerous side from the outset - something Barnet have not been accustomed to this season.

Asked about the impact of the traffic on his side’s preparation, Allen replied: "It is not surprising when we are coming into town, the traffic is bound to build up.

"When we come into town the crowds are big; it’s a passionate crowd and the team top of the league. We have had this from day one."

He continued: "The first 20 minutes when we were up against the crowd and the players that is what it is like when we come.

"It does not affect you unless you let it affect you."

Barnet were without player-coach Graham Stack between the sticks for the first time this season and Allen sprung a surprise by handing signing West Ham United’s Swiss Under-21 international Spiegel on loan from Hammers in time to make his debut in the West Country.

"He (Stack) injured his back over the weekend. He was unfit at half past eight yesterday morning when he came into the training ground," revealed Allen.

"So yesterday morning at half past eight I had to try and find a goalkeeper. We got Mr Spiegel - I think that’s how you say his name - I call him Rafa, from West Ham yesterday morning and we met him on the bus on the motorway this afternoon."

Asked how long the former Arsenal stopper would be out for, Allen was unable to put a time-frame on Stack’s return.

The emergency loan window closes on Thursday and after the sudden addition of Spiegel, Allen refused to confirm or deny whether he would look to tweak his squad before then.

He mused: "We are not sure. There is money available. The chairman has been supportive and very helpful, but you would have to find some blinking good players to make the team better. You would have to be paying quite a lot of money to make our team better.

We are a very tight little unit and you don’t want too many players because if you don’t play them then they all get unhappy and moan and that means I have got to buy a lot of Neurofen and I don’t like that.

Allen concluded: "These players have got us to where we are: these players are good and I have faith in them. We stick together, work together, look after each other and help each other. We are a very close-knit bunch."
