Hendon manager Gary McCann lamented his side’s decision making after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to second-bottom VCD Athletic on Saturday.

The Greens came from behind to draw with the Vickers, missing the opportunity to extend their lead over fifth-placed Leiston.

And McCann was in no doubt as to why Hendon had been unable to kill off the challenge of last season’s Isthmian Division One North champions.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “I am frustrated that we didn’t get the three points today, because we had more than enough chances to win the game.

“But it was also a game where we could have ended with no points.

“I thought we had some very good passages of play, but I was not happy with our decision-making in and around their penalty area. The final passes were not what we wanted.

“However, the conditions were very difficult. Some of the players were wearing the longest studs they could, but they were still slipping over and that goes for both teams.”

Hendon conceded the opener after just three minutes. Mikhail Kennedy, on loan from Charlton Athletic, controlled a ball out to the left before cutting inside and firing beyond Ben McNamara.

A Hendon equaliser arrived in first-half stoppage time when Chris Seeby and Andre da Costa combined well to release Smith. The forward used his pace and power to turn beyond Lewis Tozer and beat Blue at his near post.

Hendon substitute Peter Dean then placed wide from a good position and both sides saw efforts disallowed for offside before full time.

On Tuesday Kezie Ibe scored his 13th of the season to sink Leiston 1-0.
