Potters Bar skier Robert Poth was the only member of the Great Britain team to record a place in the giant slalom at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Austria and Liechtenstein.
The 16-year-old finished 47th overall after runs of 55.56 and 54.11 ensured he was the only member of Team GB’s four-strong unit to complete both runs and gain a place finish on the slopes in Malbun, Liechtenstein.
Reflecting on the result, the teenager said: “I certainly wasn’t at my best. I was moving late into the corners and with the first run I was just hanging on by the end.
“It was a very similar story with the second run and I made quite a big mistake coming down, which caused issues with the steep section running into the flat, so overall I’m not happy.
“The conditions were good for racing but I didn’t perform at my best. I’ll take today and use the experience for the slalom on Thursday, knowing it’s my better discipline.
“My hopes are high for the slalom – that’s gone well for me this year and I’m confident. Hopefully I can push into the top 30 on the first run and then I should be in with a good chance of getting a decent result.”
