Middlesex opener Nick Gubbins was unbeaten on 90 and within five runs of equalling his highest first-class score when rain stopped play in the Division One match against Somerset at Taunton.

With Adam Voges on 65 not out at the other end, Middlesex were making good progress on 194 for two from 51 overs when umpires Richard Kettleborough and Alex Wharf took the players from the field. An early tea was taken at 3.10pm and prospects for a resumption later in the day do not look good.

After Somerset had been bowled out for 408 on Sunday, Middlesex took their overnight score of 10 for no wicket on to 123 for two at lunch, with Sam Robson (5) and Nick Compton (28) both dismissed by Lewis Gregory.

However, Gubbins and skipper Voges have both been largely untroubled in a third-wicket partnership that has so far realised 134 runs in 34 overs.

Gubbins has struck 12 fours and two sixes in his innings and will be hoping to surpass the 95 he made against Somerset at Uxbridge last summer. Voges has hit 12 fours.
