Barnet have made former Lincoln City attacker Ben Tomlinson their second signing of the day following his release by the Imps.

The 25-year-old, who can play on the left of midfield or up front, joins the Bees on a two-year deal after leaving Sincil Bank.

Tomlinson scored 32 league goals in 78 Conference outings for Lincoln in two years with the club and netted in the 4-1 rout of Barnet in January.

Speaking to the club website following his move, he said: “I am delighted. They are a really good club and hopefully Martin can take us in the right direction and we will have a good season next season. There is not much between the two leagues so hopefully we will be right up there next season.

“I played against them a couple of times last season and think I played well in both of those games to be fair – although that might be blowing my own trumpet a little bit.

“Hopefully I stood out a little bit and I’m pleased to have got it sorted and I’m looking forward to getting back into the Football League with Barnet. I can’t wait.”

Head coach Martin Allen added: “Ben is a player that I have tracked for a while. He can play on the left side of midfield or up front. He is a very good athlete and has a very good goal-scoring ratio. He is confident, he has self-belief and I quite like him.

“He got a free transfer from Lincoln City and we are giving him his chance in the Football League. He has got something to prove and we are going to help him do it.”

Tomlinson has previously played in the Football League with Macclesfield Town - for whom he made 25 League Two appearances - and lists Worksop and Alfreton Town among his previous employers.

He also has the claim to fame of scoring one of the fastest goals in Football League history - netting just 6.4 seconds after kick off in a game against Morecambe whilst with the Silkmen.
