London Broncos have today confirmed the signing row Jason Walton from Salford Red Devils on a deal until the end of the 2016 season.

Walton, who can play centre or second row, joins Broncos with immediate effect. The 25-year-old joined the Red Devils as a junior in 2006 before becoming a first-team player in 2007.

However, Walton was not at Salford the entire time and he had a successful spell at Bately Bulldogs between 2009 and 2012, winning a Northern Rail Cup and playing in a Championship Grand Final.

For Walton it was the chance of playing more regularly, coupled with a shot at playing in the Super League, which made a move to Broncos so appealing.

“I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” said Walton. “London are looking to go back up to Super League and that’s what I want too,”

“It was a big decision for me but I think I needed it, it should be a good move for me. I was playing at Salford but not regularly so if I can play more often it’ll bring out the best in me.”

Broncos’ head coach Andrew Henderson has played against Walton in the past and was pleased with his latest capture.

“Another great addition to the squad, Jason will add competition to both the back row and centre positions,” Henderson explained. “He’s a great player, who is tough, runs good lines and hits hard in defence.

“I’ve played against Jason during his time at Batley and I’ve watched him recently in the Super League with Salford to know he’s the right quality for our squad moving forwards.”

Walton, along with other new signing James Cunningham, will be available for selection this weekend, as Broncos host Whitehaven at The Hive.
