London Broncos have made forward Eddie Battye their latest recruit as he arrives from Sheffield Eagles.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal with London having been with the Eagles for the last eight years, minus a short stint with French side Villeneuve Leopards in 2012.

Battye played 72 times for Sheffield during his time at the club he joined when he was 16 but is keen to get started with the Broncos.

He said: “I am really looking forward to getting down to London and joining. It was a massive decision for me and it is going to be a big change and a challenge I am looking forward to.

“It will be great to work under Hendo [head coach Andrew Henderson] as I have a lot of respect for him as a player and as a person from his time at Sheffield and he helped me a lot.

“Hopefully he can continue to develop my game as head coach. He has a lot of knowledge of the game and I hope to learn as much as I can.”

Though Battye will continue with Sheffield until the end of the season, Broncos boss Henderson expects the forward to be a hit at the club when he does arrive.

“Eddie is a great acquisition for the club,” Henderson said. “He’s come through a good system at Sheffield and is now an established player at this level. I’m really excited that he’s decided to join us.

“He’s tough, robust and very skilful for a prop. He’s had a really good season this year with Sheffield as one of their standout front-rowers.

"I know he was offered to stay at Sheffield and attracted Super League interest but he felt that the time was right for a new challenge and saw that London was the best opportunity to further his career.”
