After avoiding relegation last season Mansfield Town have been one of the surprise packages after 19 games in League Two this season.

The Stags are currently eighth but had been fourth at one stage. However, a run of form which has seen just two wins from seven has seen Adam Murray’s side drop out of the play-off places.

Player-manager Murray, 34, became the youngest manager in the Football League and Premier League when he succeeded Paul Cox in December.

Cox had guided the Stags back into the Football League in 2013 by winning the Conference. Mansfield finished 11th immediately following promotion.

However, they regressed last term and with the side 18th in December, Cox was relieved of his duties and replaced by Murray.

Murray remained registered as a player last season and made his 152nd and final appearance for the club in a 1-1 draw at Northampton Town.

Here we profile three players who could make the difference against Barnet on Saturday.

Times Series:

Brian Jensen: The veteran Danish goalkeeper, 40, joined Mansfield in the summer after spending last season at Crawley Town.

Jensen has immediately established himself as Murray’s first-choice between the sticks despite his age, missing just one league game so far.

Born in Copenhagen, the 6ft 1in stopper started his career at local club Boldklubben af 1893 before getting his break by joining Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 1997. From there he caught the eye of West Bromwich Albion, moving to The Hawthorns in 2003.

Restricted to a backup role in three of his four seasons with the Midlands outfit, Jensen moved to Burnley and spent a decade at Turf Moor, becoming a cult hero and making 312 appearances in all competitions.

Jensen spent a season with Bury after leaving the Clarets before heading south to Crawley last summer.

Times Series:

Ryan Tafazolli: The 24-year-old defender has been a regular at the heart of Mansfield's defence since joining the Stags in 2012 after a year out of football.

The 6ft 5in defender left first club Southampton in 2011 after failing to secure a professional contract and after failed trials at Eastleigh and Reading, spent a year out of the game.

However, early in the 2012/13 season he moved to Field Mill and quickly established himself as a key component in the Stags' defence as they won promotion back to the Football League.

Tafazolli hasn't looked back since and is rapidly approaching 100 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He has even added goalscoring to his game this season, netting three times already to double his existing tally for the club.

Times Series:

Matt Green: The hero of the Stags’ 2013 promotion, the striker returned to Field Mill after two injury plagued seasons at Birmingham City this summer.

Green netted 25 times in the league as Mansfield were promoted from the Conference, adding to the 29 goals he had plundered the previous season.

That form persuaded Championship side Birmingham to spend an undisclosed fee to bring the striker to St Andrews.

However, Green’s time with the Blues was disrupted when he damaged his cruciate ligaments in training in November 2013, ending his season with two goals from 12 outings in his first season.

He failed to make an appearance in his second season with the Midlands club and rejoined the Stags in the summer. He is the club’s top scorer with six goals in 18 league starts.
