A Hendon pool team completed a rare double by winning the New Barnet & District Pool league and the league cup.

The team called Arena Killers, who play from the Arena restaurant owned by Naresh Yadav in Hendon Central, meet up every week on a Thursday to enjoy the sport.

Their achievement, where they finished top of the table on 91 points, is the first of its kind by any team in Hendon or in the surrounding areas and Captain Praful Varsani said it was great to win against 11 competitive teams in the league.

He said: “It wasn’t just from a single person, it was a great achievement by the whole team and it took some special moments to win the league and to do a double is just fantastic.

“It is hard to put into words how great it is really, we all just gelled really well together.”

The captain also added they do not want to give up on their double easily and will be looking to defend their titles.

“We are definitely going to try and retain them both for next season, we are bringing in stronger players as well so we have every chance to defend the league and the cup.”

Varsani was a part of the team who beat Weaver 2-7 in the semi-finals of the league Cup and who saw off Hickson’s Angels in the final on May 26.

The Pool league consists of teams who have county and national pool players making the feat even more inspiring.

Arena Killers are made up of 15 players and will now enter the National Pool finals in Great Yarmouth.
