Barnet fielded two separate squads as they enjoyed comfortable victories at non-league opposition on Saturday.

The Bees kicked-off their pre-season campaign with a 5-1 win at Cheshunt, while a more youthful side were 4-0 victors at Ware.

In the opening game John Akinde opened his and Barnet's account for the season inside two minutes in Hertfordshire, before Cheshunt equalised after half an hour through Adam Bolle.

A Joe Kizzi own goal restored their lead and second-half goals from Michael Gash, Wesley Fonguck and Fumnaya Shomotun sealed a comfortable win.

Later in the day, a young Bees side put four past Ryman Football League North Division Ware, where they led 3-0 at half-time.

Academy graduate Justin Nwogu netted first, before Ben Tomlinson, at 26 one of the more senior names in the side, doubled the lead.

18-year-old Jack Taylor added a third on the stroke of half-time, and then young Ephron Mason-Clark wrapped up the scoring after 67 minutes.

Manager Martin Allen told the club's website he was pleased with his side's workout, having been in the dugout at Cheshunt, while development coach Ross Eames was at Ware.

He said: "I thought it was a really good workout.

"It was nice to go locally to Cheshunt – they’ve got a really good set up there, with a lovely pitch.

"We were very well looked after off the pitch too, so first and foremost I’d like to thank them for making everyone at Barnet welcome.

"The performance was very good.

"As everyone can imagine, it’s important for the players to get their fitness levels up at the moment.

"They’ve had a tough week in training, so to have a game at the end of it was a test of the players’ character and personality."
