Barnet boss Dean Brennan praised his side’s determination as they came from behind to beat Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 at the Hive on Tuesday.

After Saturday’s disappointing loss at Atrincham, the north London side knew only a win would keep them within touching distance of second-placed Bromley.

And Brennan acknowledged the importance of the result, secured by goals from Nicke Kabamba and Zak Brunt after Josh Rees had put Daggers ahead.

“It wasn't a classic performance from us. It’s not exactly how we want to play, but we are a little bit depleted at the moment and the character of our group did really well," he told the club website.

“We really dug deep and scored at a brilliant time - just before half-time. They'd taken the lead against the run of play and they made it difficult for us at times.

“They defended deep, in numbers, but I think with about 10 minutes to go before half-time Josh [Keeley] has made a brilliant save from a point-blank header, that was a big moment in the game.

"And the bit of magic from Jordan Maguire-Drew got us the equaliser as the cross went in. Great positioning from Nicke [Kabamba] and a great header.”

On the confidence of his side going into the game, Brennan described the character his players exhibited and suggested they are growing in morale as a collective.

“We have got character. We’ve got bundles of it. You don’t win 17 or 18 games that we’ve won in this division already if you don’t have that," he added.

"On Saturday, when you look back on it, we started on the wrong foot. It was a long, long day, and I’m putting it down to that, really."

With the January transfer window now open and injuries piling up, Brennan seemed confident the club would be able to support him with incomings.

“The biggest concern for us now is that Harry Pritchard’s gone off with a calf injury and we’ve got several injuries within the group, so we’ll have to reinforce and move fast in the market and see what we can do,” he said.

"We’re always trying to upgrade the squad. I don’t want to replace Peter with Paul, and at the end of the day, we want to bring in better players than we’ve got already.

"So, we’re always searching, and it’s that time of the year. I’ve got agents blowing my phone up day in and day out, so we’ll continue to search and try to bring in the right characters.”

Bees make the long trip to Manchester to face Northern Premier League side Radcliffe in the FA Trophy last 32 on Saturday, followed by the visit of National league leaders Chesterfield a week later.
